Day 22191
Years ago, a boss of mine decided on a new office location. My quarters there was in a back room with no windows to the outside world. After that, my next office was in an old newspaper darkroom. Again, no windows.
This has led to me making a simple declaration; my line in the sand. I would not work at a place where I had no window.
My current chair looks out on a small patio for the building. Beyond that is our parking lot, and beyond that is a Walmart. If I crane my neck a little, I can see the northern end of the Sandia Mountains.
On most days, we in the office watch as the people walk by. There are several apartment buildings in the area, and one of them must be a senior community because there are a lot of older folks who speed by in the scooters.
There are also homeless people who come through. Most are unobtrusive, but there are a few of the so-called fentanyl zombies.
What I most care about, though, is the sunshine that comes through my window, even though I get a glare on my computer screen early in the morning. It’s okay, I like the trade-off. It’s so much better that working in a cave.
