Day 22164

Welcome to Monday! Did you know that Monday was named by the Romans and named in honor of the moon? I guess that makes sense seeing that the first day of the week was named for the sun.

Doing some quick research, also known as looking at Wikipedia, I see that there is some debate as to whether Monday is the first day of the week or the second day. The International Organization for Standardization says in its ISO 8601 standard that Monday is the first day of the week, but just about every religion on earth considers it the second day of the week. (Tuesday, it turns out, is named for an old Norse god, Tiw.)

In modern times, we tend to associate Monday as the first day of the work week. We also think of Garfield the car, who always seems to lament the arrival of Monday. I’m not sure why a cat would care about the day. Cats don’t have to get up early, commute to an office and spend eight soul-sucking hours behind a computer screen moving numbers from one column to another. In fact, it looks like Garfield doesn’t do much of anything.

Why would he care about Monday?

For me, Monday is a good time to rest after a weekend of yard work, changing the oil in the cars and laundry. At least I’m getting paid to be at work.
